God's Green Earth - 2017 Pantone Quilt Challenge

Earlier this year, I was cutting fabrics for a potential "Greenery" inspired quilt; the next day, the 2017 Pantone Quilt Challenge was announced. So here's the quilt I made to celebrate the color of the year, I'm calling it God's Green Earth.

While selecting the fabrics for this quilt, it became clear to me that there would be other colors to join the party as well. I love green but, I love colors too, and this makes for a more interesting quilt (in my point of you).

I used different fabrics from different designers, scraps too, although at the end, I put as much back in the scrap bin if it's not more ...

For the quilting I did a horizontal matchstick quilting (again) on my longarm, I used a light green thread (King Tut 40w Angel Green #958). She ends up at 56"x67" after the washing.
I LOVE this type of quilting, I love the way it looks and, it's relatively easy on the longarm.

The backing is Meadowlark Blue & Green Ovals & Triangles, an earlier print by Denise Schmidt that was bought a few years ago for another quilt but, was never used. I'm glad I was finally able to use it.
And to finish it up, I made a scrappy binding using some of the same fabrics I used in the quilt, I like the way it blends with the quilt.

I was totally inspired par the first set of blocks of the Long Time Gone Quilt-Along, the Bow Tie, an old and traditional block. I used the Bow-Tie Circles by Kaffe Fassett, you can find the pattern in this book.

  4. Maryse, I love this quilt! Sometimes I don't know what it is that makes me like one design so much, but is I really like! Colours are beautiful and for me those other colours except green, are very important. Low volume 'balls' are so good. Quilting is absolutely super like the binding, too. Good luck! x Teje
